Happy New 2021!!

The start of a New Year and a New Decade!

Now, think back all the way to 2010.

Take a brief moment to think about the person you were and what you were doing back then.

Did you imagine your life would be like it is today? or that the world would be like it is today?

I’m guessing your answer to both is “No”.

Because I certainly couldn’t imagine being where I am today, considering the ‘state’ I was in back then.

😥My grandmother who raised me had just passed away.

😥My marriage had just ended painfully.

😟I was fired from my job, while still coming out of a global recession.

Yes, all three of those events happened one after the other pretty much in the same space of time. Talk about terrible 3’s!

It was too much for me to imagine back then that I’d be where I am today, happy in all areas of my life, personally, emotionally, professionally & financially.

If you had told me that 10 years ago? I wouldn’t be able to hear or want to believe you, as I was too overwhelmed by the haze of pain and tears.

But that’s just how much things can change in 10 years… And now here we are, coming into the first year of a new decade.

And sadly, we have a new challenge facing us that none of us has ever faced before. I’m speaking of course about COVID-19 which has impacted so many people around the world from jobs to businesses to personal lives… It’s been a tough year for everyone.

And it’s also unsettling not knowing for sure when it will be over…

But one thing we are sure about, is that we weren’t ready for it.

So I know you might still be in relaxation, festive mode, but I think it’s important to ask the question… Are you ready?

Whether you have your own business, still have a job, or searching for new opportunities…

Are you really ready for this new decade?

Because life as we knew it is about to change. And it will change a lot…

Another good question to ask yourself is,

“How Do I Start Preparing For The New Decade?”

If we take a look at history, there are some certainties that have never changed. And one of them is this…

People with special, relevant skills in the marketplace are always of value to others.

And with the world inevitably going online, there are 2 types of skills that will be highly valuable and even irreplaceable, they are…

1) The ability and skillset to market and provide products and services online

2) Helping companies (large or small) communicate and market their products and services to win customers online

If you have the skills that can help companies (and yourself) navigate through uncertain & challenging times, you become a highly valuable and irreplaceable asset….to others and especially to yourself.

When I was a young boy, maybe around 11 years old…I was practicing playing my guitar and having fun with it, when my Grandfather came up and said to me harshly…

“Don’t waste your time with that. Study hard, there’s no money being a musician, get good grades so you can get a good job”.

Although he meant well, I only realised later on in my life how much what he said really sunk in and affected me and my confidence in expressing myself.

So, later in life, I went down the corporate route, specialising in sales & marketing, and my financial situation and professional status kept on rising.

But the more focused and successful I was in my corporate career, the more my soul felt…”sick”.

Like there was a big emptiness in my heart…

I also felt strangely guilty – as if I had abandoned someone (or something) I loved.

I spent many years feeling guilty, confused and sad about this – before I finally worked out that music was always inside of me, just waiting to be let out and expressed freely.

I think a lot of people have this experience when they’re young, when someone, maybe a parent or teacher, advises them to take a practical route in studying hard and getting a ‘good job’.

But what most people find later on in life, is that just having a good job that pays the bills isn’t what makes them truly happy, it’s being able to express themselves freely and share whatever natural talents they have with others, that does.

So, my message to you…is wherever you are in your life’s journey, it’s never too late to do that.

As for me, I’ve learned to be at peace with who I am ( a wonderfully weird combination of artist and entrepreneur : )) and to use elements of my artistic side for business.

But that’s a story for another time.

What I was able to learn from my experiences is that,

Even negative feelings like pain, guilt and regret can help us find and discover the right path by showing us things we need to learn about ourselves…things no one can teach us, and only time can reveal.

The ‘best version of you’ and the life of your dreams might be the result of a ‘combination‘ of things you have yet to discover about yourself…and are yet to come.
