Let your dreams LEAD you

Mark Villarosa - Online Entrepreneur

When I was a teenager…

My dreams were of me onstage, playing music, there were smiling faces of people, I would play my guitar and sing and I made lots of people happy.

I also dreamt of adventure. Driving a car and a motorcycle with the wind in my hair.

Travelling to new places, meeting new people and making new friends.

Those were the dreams I had.

It took me many, many years of soul searching and personal self-development before I found my way back to living the dreams my boyhood self had.

As children, many of us were taught to suppress our natural belief that we could be whatever we dreamed to be, often by well-meaning people who just wanted the best for us.

But in wishing to protect us from falling and getting hurt, may have also clipped our wings and grounded us.

What were your dreams?

What or Who did you want to become?

The dreams we have, especially when we’re young are the essence of who we really are, and who we’re meant to be.

Don’t ever give up on your dreams.

Stay close to them in any way you can.

Dreams are a language our souls use to communicate our deepest and highest purpose in life.

If you have dreams that keep coming back to nudge you every so often?

Listen to them.

That’s your soul trying to remind you, who you really are.

Fight for your Dreams✊

Me playing guitar at 6 years old

One day when I was a young boy…I was practising playing the guitar and having fun with it when my Grandfather came up and said to me…

ā€œDon’t waste your time with that. Study hard, there’s no money being a musician, get good grades so you can get a good jobā€.

Although he meant well, I only realised later on in my life how much what he said affected me as a young boy and my confidence in expressing my true self.

So, later in life, to please my loved ones I went to University, graduated and went down the corporate route, specialising in sales & marketing and in fairness my financial situation and professional status kept on rising.

But the more focused and successful I was in my corporate career, the more my soul feltā€¦ā€sickā€.

Like there was a big emptiness & sadness in my heart…

I also felt strangely guilty – as if I had abandoned that little boy who loved to play music.

I spent many years feeling guilty, confused and sad about this – before I finally worked out that music and expression was always inside of me, just waiting to be let out and set free again.

I think a lot of people have this experience when they’re young, when someone, maybe a parent or teacher, advises them to take a practical route in studying hard and getting a ā€˜good job’.

But what most people find later on in life, is that just having a job that pays the bills isn’t what makes them truly happy,

It’s being able to express themselves freely and sharing whatever natural talents they have with others, that creates real self-fulfilment.

Wherever you are in your life’s journey, it’s never too late to do that.

Don’t give up on your dreamsšŸ™ fight to defend them if you have to, they are who you really are.

Even negative feelings like pain, guilt and regret can help us find and discover the right path to reach them by showing us things we need to learn about ourselves…things no one can teach us, and only time and overcoming challenges can reveal best.

The best version of you and the life of your dreams might be the result of a combination of things you have yet to discover about yourself.

You may have to go through some dark and tough times to reach the other side…but believe me, it will be worth the journey when you arrive.

A POWERFULšŸ’Ŗ’Trick’ to make your Dreams come true

Here’s a very powerful and fun ‘trick’ I want to share with you…to accelerate you towards your dreams and goals in life.

The trick is this… First, I’d like you to visualise a dream or goal you have in the future…for example, let’s say it’s having more time, freedom and money to do the things you really love in life. Got it in mind?

Ok, now use your imagination to answer this mental checklist I made for you, it looks something like this…

When you imagine your ideal future self already living that life, think about…

  • What daily habits/rituals does your future self practice?
  • What is your future self’s attitude to life?
  • How does your future self deal with stress & challenges?
  • What kind of books is your future self reading?
  • What kind of relationships does your future self have with their family & loved ones?
  • What kind of friendships & connections is your future self nurturing?
  • What kind of skills does your future self have?

After you’ve imagined the answers to all the above, the ‘trick’ is simply to…

Start being that person now.

The person you are in your ideal future…and who you are now…are the same, only separated by time.

You’re just putting yourself on the best path by adopting the habits and mindsets your future self already has, to make sure you get you there😊

Achieving the successes we dream of in the future starts today with every action and decision we make.

Think of your checklist as your own personal ‘GPS’ guidance system, helping you to know if you’re making the right decisions and actions that are either steering you towards or away from your dreams and goals.

I hope this ‘trick’ helps you out  ; ) it’s certainly helped me prioritise what’s important in my life and stay firmly on course towards my dreams.
